RTD to adjust service for New Year’s Eve events in downtown Denver

RTD and Coors Light partner to offer zero fare on all RTD services from 7 p.m. Dec. 31 to 7 a.m. Jan. 1

DENVER (Dec. 29, 2023) — The Regional Transportation District (RTD) will not operate the D, H and L light rail lines during two New Year’s Eve fireworks shows in downtown Denver. However, the agency’s Free MallRide shuttle will continue service on 15th and 17th streets during the events. RTD will be providing zero fares through a partnership with Molson Coors from 7 p.m. Dec. 31 to 7 a.m. Jan. 1.

The city and county of Denver is hosting its annual New Year’s Eve fireworks shows at 9 p.m. and midnight on the 16th Street Mall. To accommodate the shows, RTD will make the following service adjustments:

  • Starting at 8 p.m., D and H Line trains will not operate north of Theatre District•Convention Center Station. The trains will operate normally south of Theatre District•Convention Center Station
  • L Line service will be suspended from 8 p.m. through the end of service; customers are encouraged to consider using bus Route 43 as an alternative service
  • Free MallRide service on the 15th and 17th streets will continue during both events
  • Customers using downtown routes should allow extra time for delays and detours, which may also affect scheduled connecting bus and rail trips

RTD is partnering again with Molson Coors for the 15th year to encourage metro Denver residents and visitors to celebrate responsibly this New Year’s Eve by providing zero fare transit services on all RTD bus and rail routes – as well as Access-a-Ride, FlexRide and SkyRide services – from 7 p.m., Dec. 31 through 7 a.m., Jan. 1. Customers can plan their trips using the Next Ride web app.

The agency will operate regular service for bus and rail on New Year’s Eve according to a Sunday/holiday schedule, with extra rail cars added to trains where possible to accommodate customers attending Broncos, Avalanche and New Year’s Eve events. On New Year’s Day, RTD will continue to operate a Sunday/holiday schedule. Customers are urged to check schedules for final bus and train times.
